UKAS v ISO Calibration

Hi,

Can someone please explain the difference between a UKAS and ISO calibration - a proposed calibration service provider offers both services with a price premium on the UKAS calibration.

Do both meet the requirements of calibration in that they are traceable to national/international standards?

I want to see if industry understanding is the same as the salemans patter I’ve received!

Very briefly.

UKAS is the governing body that approves calibration centres and inspects them to insure they comply with the UK national legislation and requirements for what ever they calibrate.

ISO is a body that sets standards that represent various degrees of excellence. You have standards for just about everything, these days, ranging from room lighting to air quality.

So yes, you have instrument calibration companies that are approved by UKAS for certain calibration work and certified as being compliant with certain ISO’s.
