Self Draining Pumps

Doing a risk assessment on our manufacturing tanks recently. One of the things I notice is that the pumps; transfer pump (rotary lobe) and CIP (centrifugal) are not self draining. The inlet/outlet for the lobe pump is on the horizontal and there is space for a small amount of water to remain in the head. For the CIP, a small amount of water can exist below the inlet pipe, as the outlet is pointing up vertically.
Just wondering how other people deal with this… I am proposing untightening the bolts after cleandown and letting equipment drain fully and then tightening.
What do other people do? all pump suppliers seem to supply pumps with inlet/outlets in the same location.
Thanks Niamh
