Photostability and Photoreactors

Dear members,
There are two options of photostability conditions in the ICH document. We find a company who can supply photoreactors for each option.
Should we purchase both ICH option-1 and -2 photoreactors?
If we could choose one option, which one are recommended? - or when we use ICH option 1 and when we should use ICH option 2?
Thanks in advance.

Siswanto

Hi siswanto
Recently in our company we conducted photo stability study for one of our APIs. We used NEWTRONIC EQUIPMENT COMPANY PRIVATE LIMITED make. This instrument can be used for both ICH options and can be used as a stand by stability chamber also.
We used Option II i.,e, for confirmatory studies. Option I is required at drug development stage.

so, about application, is ICH option 2 more suitable for product development and ICH option 1 for stability indicating assay?

ICH Q1B mentions that the temperature should be maintained and appropriately controlled to minimize the effect of localized temperature changes. How many degree C the temperature should be set during photostability testing?
