Great article! A short answer to your question of why MES.

MES can be integrated into ERP systems. MES is the system layer between the ERP and plant floor control systems or devices, such as PLCs that control individual machines or production lines. MES effectively link these two layers together and enable an exchange of information.

Reasons to implement MES include:

Automate management of recipes (process manufacturers)
Scheduling, including the management of priorities
Production reporting
Key Performance Indicator (KPI) tracking
Event or exception management
Product or materials tracking
Intelligent decisions to influence production and cost management
Measure and manage Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE)
Ease management of resources, including inventory and personnel

can be sap interlinked with it ?

YES! SAP is a normal ERP system that many of the large Bio-Pharmacetical companies use, and it can be integrated with most of the MES systems that work in the Bio-Pharmaceutical industry. I have implemented the Werum and Syncade MES systems with SAP.

Can you brief a littile bit more real time scenerio over MES.

Thanks in anticipation.
