When validating servers is it necessary to record details such as IP addresses etc. or should these things be managed by the network group?
Good question. This will depend on how your network/infrastructure management process is defined.
Generally when writing a specification for such a system one would include what the IP particulars would be (e.g IP address, Gateway etc.) as well as the computer’s hostname.
By recording these details during qualification you’re actually verifying that the right machine is used in the right place (amongst other things).
So, my advice - yes, record all of this during qualification and it can be verified/audited as part of the configuration management process.
