Chloroform stabilized with ethanol

Dear all,
please explain the meaning of Chloroform stabilized with ethanol??? how it is stabilize???

What is the use of stabilize??? and difference between the regular chloroform and stabilizes chloroform???

Sorry for the no. of question but little confused that why i am asking.

Thanks

A small amount of Ethanol (~1 ppm) is added to Chloroform in order to prevent the formation of epoxides/peroxides which are explosive. Ethanol is also commonly added to THF for the same reason I don’t know the mechanism.

You can purchase unstabilized solvents but you will have to take extreme measures like refridgeration and covering the solvent with an inert gas like Nitrogen after use.

thanks…
