Any idea's on how to improve our forum. List them here!

I have had similar experiences in the industry, somehow due to time restirctions or budgets some validation/project managers just want to get the job done without incoporating the neccessary level of compliance that is required for the project to really be successful.

My advise is do your own job to the best of your ability and help others when you feel it will help

what if i invented a fictitious situation where client is using a machine from a simple little company in a simple little process for a simple little device that everyone uses? Is anyyone willing to participate as Specialists and see where this goes? We might learn from each other!

The Manufacturer: Established in Moregon, USA (ca. 1975)
E-mail: greymass2003@yahoo.com
The product: Improved and upgraded document reader.
First manufactured: 1985; last upgrade and retrofit 2002.
Retrofit/Upgrade:

  1. Addition of combo memory card reader and USB 2.0
  2. CD R/W
  3. Interface board
  4. Software upgrade
  5. LCD Display upgrade
  6. Bar-Code read capability

The Client: Drop-a-Second Corporation
Product: Glass droppers
Use: To check Manufacturing Specs
Area: Glass blowing room

The Scenario:
You are contracted by “Sensible Validation Group” to bring this company up-to-speed. No specifics, just get this and other equipment qualified. For now only IQ’s are required.

I will play the role of manufacturer of the machine; greymass2003@yahoo.com
Anyone can be the owner of dropper company.
Someone from our audience will lead a group of specialists.
Let’s have fun and see what comes out of all this!
Does this sound like a plan?
Don’t worry if things don’t turn out the way you expected it to be.
We will have contributed positively to this forum!
Now! Let’ start writing the IQ!
Ask for drawings and documents at my email! Remeber it’smake believe and I don’t have exotic drawing softare.
No phonecalls please, I’ll send everything that is requested over email!

Thats sound like a great idea and a way we could all learn something new.

Let me put this on the homepage so our community can see what we are trying to do with it.

I will play the role of one of the validation specialists and ask you are requirements.

When you provide the requirements I will put them into a real word document so at the end we will have a real working example.

I’ll have it on the homepage by the end of the day.

Regards

Great; sounds like a plan!

Thanks for agreeing…

Ron

Would it be at all possible to get something on the forum pages (where it list the threads/ replies/ views etc) as to whether or not the last post has been reported as spam/ advertising. It is quite annoying to open a thread and scroll to the bottom to find out that it is just a spam advertisement.

Hi mcollins,

Thanks for alerting the spam, we recently upgraded our forum software to version 3.7.3, but since that we seem to be getting alot of spam, we are currently in discussions with vBulletin the forum provider and we hope to have this issue resolved ASAP.

all spam has now been deleted and users banned.

Thank you

I think it’s a good site - I keep up to date with it, and post when I think I can help out.

Is there any merit in having specific sections for each validation element (eg URS, FS, IQ, risk assessment etc)? That may help us find more detailed information on a particular topic.

Hi Cat,

Good idea, I will set up a documentation section soon so we can debate what should go in each document depending on the validation study taking place.

Cheers

I hope this thread is alive. The site is very good and has got many features that generally take more time to fall in (for new forums). I sincerely appreciate the adminstrator and other members who came up with good suggestions so far. The posters are very knowledgeable and pragmatic.

As an engineer in pharma industry for about 12 years, I have been looking for this kind of sites all the while, still I came across this site only by chance. I have few observations for your perusal.

  1. No. of registered members is low.
  2. There are many unanswered posts.
  3. Hit rate in Google is not very good (I used the key word validation forums and this forum is the 5th hit on the second page)
  4. The hierarchy of forum listings is not logical.
  5. OP responses are poor and there is no acknowledgement as to whether the view presented is acceptable or not acceptable etc.
  6. The forum requires quite frequent log ins (I have yet to find out the reason why I am getting automatically logged out)

I have some suggestions for discussion.

The menu items are in lower case and not catching the eye. Probably you can put them in bold Title cases with bigger fonts so that menus are clearly visible.

Registration pop ups (that explain the advantage of registering) can attract attention.

The content of the forum message can be manipulated to put the forum in the first page of google search. (for example, if we repeat the words validation, pharmaceuticals, life sciences, qualification etc many times, the chances of viewers getting hits of this forum is high). In short, we have to maintain high keyword density and revise the keywords time to time.

The first group of forums talk about software validation but there are very few posts. Second and third group has many posts and viewers. So, heirarchy of forums can be made depending upon no. of visitors or no. of posts.

Encourage the OPs to acknowledge useful tips. The rating of posts should be brought to a conspicuous position (may be in the thread itself rather than in an edit screen).

The idea of awarding member title by number of posts doesn’t look like a sound idea. For example, my background is engineering and validation is just part of my life. I prefer the option of selecting the title by the member where the options include all departments of Pharma Industry.

Further, the present titles can be awarded to the posters based on quality and quantity of replys they post and can be decided by the forum administrator and moderator.

Referral at other related sites can draw more members.

Thanks,

The most important suggestion from my side is that the person who has legal liability of this site should check all the attachments for nuisance coefficient. For example, first attachment in this thread
http://www.askaboutvalidation.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1299
seems to be internal document and may cause trouble.

Thank you for your kind words its being a long road to get to this stage.

Yes we are continually trying to reach a higher number, on average we get about 5-8 new members per day. We hope that this will increase organically over time.

Unfortunately this happens from time to time, we are always looking for moderators for the site but for some reason people are more inclinded to chip in now and again. As we are a non profit site we cannot afford to pay or moderators, if you have any ideas I would love to hear them.

We have recently revised our keywords so hopefully we will get a better Google hit rate soon, as you can imagine this is nearly a job in itself and maintaining the forum alone is alot of work.

What do you mean by this? What would be a logical listing in your view?

Again we need moderators for each section in order to allow this to happen, its a great idea but we need help!

Hmm, not sure why this is happening you should stay automatically logged in once you log in once, is your cache being cleared each day?

I’ll look into this and see how it looks with the changes

I’ll look into this aswell

Please expand on this I would be interested in speaking to you about this, contact me directly if that suits.

This can be arranged

Again we need moderators for this to work.

Some great points

If you want to show up on the first search result page of Google for specific keywords (the words or phrase that you want to search for), you have to make this site “Google friendly” and do everything in your power to get a high Page Rank from Google. This comes down to Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and getting backlinks from other relevant sites. Google for “SEO” and “backlink” … and you will find loads of information how to get this site optimized for Google.

Just googled for the keywords software validation forum and you show up as #1 on the first result page … guess you are doing something right here
